Birmingham Proofed Percussion Pistol signed Hewson London
.61 Caliber. 7" barrel length. SN: NSN. Octagonal Damascus barrel with engraved breechblock and polished steel back action lock with floral scroll engraving along the lockplate set in walnut one piece stock with bag shaped checkered grips. Single shot percussion smoothbore pistol featuring an iron swivel ramrod. Barrel is signed Hewson London in gothic letters along the upper flat, and features two inlaid German silver bands behind foliate engraving on the breechblock. Lower flat displays Birmingham firing proof markings. Hammer and lockplate show light engraved borders with floral scrollwork. Item additionally features an iron triggerguard and ramrod socket with German silver escutcheons for the wedge pin hole. Possibly manufactured by William P. Hewson, who was active between 1823-1830 and based in Exeter.

Condition
Very Good. Bore is Dark with patina throughout and some light pitting. External metal finish displays a gray to brown patina overall with some tarnish to German Silver components. Engraving is weakened due to polishing. Stock displays handling wear, dings, and mars overall with a crack running through the left wrist. Checkering displays some skips. Action is mechanically excellent.
