Swiss Vetterli Model 1878
10.4x42mm. 33.2" barrel length. SN: 170436. Blued metal finish with straight wrist Walnut stock mounting adjustable rear leaf notch and front blade sights and a crescent buttplate. Bolt-action repeating rifle fed by an integral tube magazine. Left receiver is struck with the {Swiss Cross}/WAFFENFABRIK/BERN, indicating it was made in Switzerland for military service. Model marking reads M.78, and the rifle additionally shows scattered {Cross/Initial} inspection stamps overall. Majority of visible serial numbers match, but the number on the bolt body does not. Stock retains matching serial numbers and legible inspection cartouches. Comes with leather sling with brass buckle, and a cleaning rod.

Condition
Good. Bore is Very Bright with sharp rifling throughout. Metal finish shows a fading blue overall with a brown patina dominating, and some light edgewear. Rifle additionally shows some signs of light sanding on the stock, with the stock showing few light handling mars overall. Sling is stained with some scattered scratches and abrasions. Leather remains supple.
