The receiver displays silvered color case hardening with 90-95% coverage in attractive foliate engraving with with an embossed pheasant on the underside and retriever on the trigger guard. The maker's name is inlayed in gold on both sides of the receiver. The fences are beautifully sculpted with a tang mounted safety and "DE LUXE" in gold on the bottom tang. The stock is is in fine condition, showing light indentations, scratches and minor marks. The splinter fore end is secured by a Deeley release and there is a blank circular escutcheon plate on the underside of the buttstock. The butt ends with a solid rubber Silver's style pad providing a 14.75" LOP with the 1" pad. The bores are very good, chambered for 2 3/4" shells, choked IC/Mod. J.V. Needham opened on Cannon St. in Birmingham in 1874, moved to Loveday Street in 1887 and was taken over by W.W. Greener in approx 1900. Greener went on to market shotguns under the Needham name until approx 1926. This is a fine example of a well appointed Birmingham trade gun. Notes: Proved 1-1/4 oz for 2-3/4 Shells.
