Outstanding Colt Model 1883 Best Quality hammerless SxS Boxlock shotgun, 12 gauge, 30" Damascus steel solid rib barrels, blue and color case hardened finish, finely checkered two-piece walnut round knob pistol grip stock, splinter fore end with Deeley/Edge lever release, blank round escutcheon plate in the buttstock, checkered side panels, extractors, double triggers, automatic safety, brass bead front sight, clear factory markings. Mfg in 1885, the shotgun is in fine antique condition, showing brown barrels with an attractive damascene pattern with light wear at the muzzles, light scratches and marks. The receiver displays vivid color case hardened finish with 30-40% coverage in fine foliate engraving and game scenes on the sides. The stock is fine with minor indentations and marks. The checkering is sharp and the buttstock shows attractive figure. The butt ends with a Colt factory checkered hard rubber butt plate with Colt monogram, providing a 14" LOP. The action functions well and locks up tight on face. The bores are good, with light erosion toward the muzzles. This is an outstanding best quality Model 1883 that would be appropriate for any private or public collection.
