Tiffany & Co Leather Brass Mounted Lap Desk, C. 1850 - A leather covered brass mounted lap desk writing box. Having a hinged domed lid with brass mounted quatrefoil medallion and reticulated bands. The interior green leather covered compartments with gilt accents. Writing surface flap on interior lid with embossed green velvet. Two small boxes for "Lights" and "Ink", brass mounted and "Combs Patent 327. REGtd 4th DECr 1844"; the box with INK having glass insert, the box with LIGHTS having numerous 19th century matchsticks and striking surface. Two removeable compartment trays. Working lock and key. Marked "TIFFANY & Co NEW YORK" on interior lid. Stylized "B" monogram on lid quatrefoil mount. 4 3/4" H x 12 5/8" L x 10 1/2" D. Condition: Some wear commensurate with age and use.
