Early Alamance County N.C. Redware Deep Dirt Dish
Ca. 1840; Original, 8.75" diameter with base 5.5" diameter, Flare form, beautiful orange lead glaze throughout with no visible damage. Classic Alamance County example that descended through the Wood Family of Alamance County. Backside has very minor drying lines that do not penetrate through. After close inspection, center of interior has impressed cartoushe. Signed examples like this were popular in the 19th Century at church gatherings where the owner would retrieve their dish back.
