“Seated Flapper in Burnt Umber Dress and Matching Hat” Marshall Field’s Animatronic Christmas Window Display Figure. Chicago: Marshall Field’s, 1982. Large painted plaster figure (“Walnut Room; Figure VII”) of a seated “flapper” in burnt umber dress, handkerchief, green hat with trim matching dress, black shoes, and stockings. One hand was apparently holding an object (remnant of prop cup is present - the cup is included but is broken). On wooden base with motor and plug. 36” high. Motor works and figure lifts cup to mouth and lowers cup. Minor wear. Fine. From the collection of the Museum of Science and Industry Chicago. This, and the other Marshall Field's Christmas Window display lots were created by Virginia Paxson in collaboration with the legendary New York design/fabrication firm, Spaeth Design.
