Victorian-era large painted plaster figure (“Walnut Room; figure IV”) of a seated man in two-tone brown shoes, brown-striped double-breasted wool suit, beige shirt and purple necktie, reading a miniature newspaper. On wooden base with motor and plug. 34” high. Working, with figure’s head slowly swiveling right and left when plugged-in. Some wear, newspaper toned with loose pages. Fine. From the collection of the Museum of Science and Industry Chicago. This, and the other Marshall Field's Christmas Window display lots were created by Virginia Paxson in collaboration with the legendary New York design/fabrication firm, Spaeth Design.
