1592 English LAW William Lambarde Eirenarcha Justice of Peace Constable Duties
William Lambarde was a 16th-century English historian who wrote several important works on English law. The most popular of these works was ‘Eirenarcha’, a manual intended to instruct on the role and duties of the justice of the peace. According to Putnam, this work became
“the basis for the later seventeenth-century treatises of which Michael Dalton's Countrey Iustice.”
‘Eirenarcha’ is often bound with ‘Duties of Constables’, another work of Lambarde’s, covering the regulations placed on other men in leadership positions. This 1592 edition includes both titles.
