17th century English Britannia Standard tubular handled basting spoon, John Martin Stockar, London, England, 1698-99, having deep egg shaped bowl with a pronounced rattail extending just over half the bowl length, tapering tubular handle with three raised encompassing ridges, ending in a gadrooned dome tip with a small vent hole. Engraved with crest of stag's head on the back of the bowl. Fully hallmarked, maker's mark ''St'' in triangular cartouche on outer edge of bowl, Lion's Head mark on lower back of handle slightly rubbed. 17''l. Total approximate weight 8.3 troy oz.
