Possibly William Elliot, London, England, 1820-21.
Early 19th century English pair of sterling silver chinoiserie tea caddies, possibly William Elliot, London, England, 1820-21, having removable caps, the hexagonal bombe form with well-formed, curving decorative panels. These caddies are very much in the form of 17th/18th century Chinese ceramic garden seats, adapted to use with the addition of spouts and removable caps. The caps' exteriors each with a threaded decoration and a bird in relief. The panels are entirely decorated with trees, birds, and flowers, under Chinese design influences. The heavy gauge silver caddies show very little wear to the gilding. Fully hallmarked on outer edges of both necks; caps with maker's mark, lion passant, and date letter; bottoms have scratch engraved numbers relating to the weight. 5-5/8''h. Total approximate weight 33.9 troy oz.
