Ma’yan Ganim (Bnei Yisoschar). Zolkiew 1848, First Edition. Special Copy.
First edition with commentary Ma’yan Ganim (Bnei Yisoschar). Zolkiew 1848
Sefer against studying of philosophy by R. Yosef Ya’avetz with commentary “Ma’yan Ganim” by R. Tzvi Elimelech Schapiro of Dinov.
R. Yosef Ya’avetz (died 1507) was a Sephardic Talmid Chochom during the era of the Spanish expulsion. After the expulsion from Spain he settled in Montova, Italy. In this sefer he fiercely attacks the study of philosophy, claiming that at times of religious persecution the more philosophical Jews were more easily swayed, whereas the simple uneducated Jews withstood the test and were martyred.
The commentary of the Bnei Yisoschar delves further into this concept from a Chasidic point of view.
Extremely rare.
