A grandson of the renowned Kol Aryeh rabbi of Mád, the Shimloyer Rov was one of the greatest rabbis of Transylvania before the Holocaust. He established a yeshiva for prize students and wrote many works including the four-volume responsa Lechem Shlomo, Tiyul BaPardes, Rachamei Av, and more.
He was a close disciple of the Kedushat Yom Tov of Sighet, and a colleague and admirer of the latter's son Rebbe Yoel of Satmar. He served as Rabbi of Tshoba (Hejőcsaba, 1893-99) and Shamlau until he was murdered in Auschwitz.
