A Fine Old Baule Mask Ex Fiterman Collection
A carved wood and painted red dance mask with a highly stylized face and remains of wooden collar, now decayed and eroded away. The Long classic face accented with reddish organic / mineral pigments and black painted areas, elaborate coiffure, kaolin clay and an overall well handled surface.Baule peoples, Ivory Coast. The mask measures 14 x 6 inches. ( 36 inches tall on custom display stand). Provenance: The Miles and Shirley Fiterman Collection, Minneapolis, MN. **The Fiterman collection was world renown for its collection of abstract arts, so this wonderfully elongated classic Baule mask was a natural fit into their outstanding collection.
Condition: Fair, heavily eroded back
